A Heinz Bauer Manufakt jacket is the sum of decisions you cannot see from the outside: which leather, which seam, which filling, which path. On this page we lay them open. All of them.

The leather: a natural product

We leave our leathers the way nature made them. No opaque coating, no embossed uniform grain: every hide keeps its own markings, its small irregularities, its character. That is why no two of our jackets are alike, and why yours will not age over the years, but grow more beautiful. Some call it patina. We call it biography.

Lamb nappa we work down to 0.4 millimetres, thinner than most workshops dare. Bison and horse front where toughness is needed. Lambskin, nature’s own climate system. And Alb buffalo from the Swabian Alb biosphere reserve, vegetable-tanned locally with bark, chestnut and mimosa instead of chemicals. Every leather in our house has a reason.

The craftsmanship

The seam runs from shoulder to sleeve without a single break. Turn the sleeve over and look for the join; you will not find one. The diamonds are quilted millimetre-true. The fillings: down of the highest grade, 90% duck down and 10% feathers, or modern high-performance fibres wherever they serve the wearing feel. Inside: wool, cashmere and silk, layered where no one looks. Tradition on the surface, high tech beneath. We combine what makes the jacket better, not what makes the label dearer.

The region

Our entire value chain lives in Germany, from cutting to the final seam in Reutlingen-Oferdingen, below the Swabian Alps. Short distances, people who know each other, quality owed to one another. It costs more than having things made elsewhere. It is also better.

For a lifetime and beyond

A jacket made this way is not seasonal goods to us. Your measurements, your lining, your monogram make it yours. And if something happens to it after years, we repair what we built. Sustainability, for us, is not a label. It is the logical consequence of how much work lives in every piece.
