Our Story
Three generations. One standard.
Reutlingen-Oferdingen, a small town between woods and hills below the Swabian Alps. You would never guess this workshop makes jackets worn all over the world. The extraordinary needs no announcement. It needs sewing.
Since 1960, every Heinz Bauer jacket has been designed, cut, sewn and finished by hand, from the first loden coats to the original convertible jacket of 1997.
1960: The beginning
In 1960, Heinz and Margot Bauer founded their own workshop, with their own collections and their own production from day one. Back then it was jackets and coats in loden and cashmere; craft came first, marketing nowhere. "If someone had told us at the beginning, we would not have dared to dream it," Jochen Bauer says today about the road that followed.
The second generation
With Jochen Bauer came the second generation, and with it, leather. Decades of tailoring knowledge met a material that forgives no mistakes. Others would have taken the easier road. We made it our profession: building jackets that exist nowhere else.
1997: The invention
Jochen Bauer loves open-top driving. In 1997 he built himself the jacket that did not exist for it: with a wind deflector waiting in the collar, folded out in one move. The wind stays out, the sky stays open. The original convertible jacket was born, and it made the small manufactory below the Swabian Alb known around the world. To this day it is our founding piece: proof that the best innovation comes from real passion.
The standard
What has never changed in over sixty years is the standard. A seam that runs from shoulder to sleeve without a single break. Diamonds quilted millimetre-true. Interior finishing hardly anyone ever sees, and everyone feels. It takes people who have mastered their craft for decades, and the patience to prove it again every day.
Today
Today as in 1960, every jacket is made in our own workshop. Designed by Jochen Bauer, cut, sewn and finished by hand, made in Germany since the day we were founded. The look of the brand moves with the times. The making stays where it belongs: in human hands.
Perfection, for us, is not a promise. It is a habit: more than 100 handcrafted steps per jacket, made in Germany.
